Earthdance EMERGE Residency: "What's My Body, What's My Land"  March 2020

Trans Theater Festival at The Brick: "Chest Bruise"

 August 2019

Chest Bruise is a raw and playful exploration of gender dysphoria, as told through the bodies of two non-binary artists. Lital Firestone questions the “femaleness” that is projected onto their convulsing body, urging the audience to deconstruct the heaviness and sexuality associated with the chest. Iris Garrison-Driscoll responds with their haunting music and whimsical taunting to transcend this pain. While Lital’s initial movements are a slow labor of confusion, Iris brings with them the power of queer family and gentle guidance to help transform Lital’s body into a rebellious release. The two sift through the shared and opposing experiences of their chests, as a loop of voices of other genderqueer people plays in the background. Lital gathered this collection of intimate interviews while traveling around the US, the Middle East, and Europe and shares them throughout the piece as a method of diversifying the trans experience of dysphoria.

"What's My Body, What's My Land" is a continuation of Lital Firestone's research on embracing a trans masculinity that sheds patriarchal patterns of abuse. This queer collaborative piece explores the bounds of gender and challenges today's oppressive power systems by narrating the toxicity of Israel's militarized society. Audio recordings feature queer EMERGE participants and Israeli anarchists protesting against the Israel Defense Forces blockading Gaza in 2019. Performed by Chloe Amos, Micheal Hooker, Mizu Desierto, Sasha Steckel Wolfe and Lital Firestone. CW: Descriptions of violence, descriptions of gender dysphoria.
